Power surges from the glass in Domaine du Pegau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Da Capo 2020, all dense black cherry and blueberry compote wrapped in dark chocolate, cured meat, dried herbs and a smoky, earthy undertow. The palate is huge yet surprisingly plush, a velvety wave of super-ripe fruit and spice riding on burly but polished tannins, with a monumental, savory finish that seems to go on and on. This is an exuberant, heady Da Capo that trades a touch of the estate’s stern austerity for sheer hedonistic richness, while still built for decades in the cellar.
Slow-braised lamb shanks with rosemary and garlic; Daube de boeuf Provençale; Dry-aged ribeye with peppercorn jus
Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Da Capo from Domaine du Pegau is the estate’s ultra-rare flagship red, produced only in top vintages from very low-yielding, century-old vines across La Crau and other prime parcels. A traditional field blend dominated by Grenache with Syrah, Mourvèdre and other permitted varieties, it is vinified with whole clusters and aged for two years in large old foudres, yielding a massively concentrated yet seamless wine famed for its dark fruit, garrigue, spice and remarkable longevity.
