Seductive yet tightly coiled, this 2020 Guigal Côte Rôtie La Mouline layers dark blackberry and cassis fruit with violet, espresso, black olive and sweet spice. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated but glides on ultra-fine tannins, giving a sense of controlled power and refinement that promises much more nuance with time in bottle. A long, textural finish hints at future complexity as the wine relaxes and gains aromatic lift over the years ahead.

Guigal’s Côte-Rôtie La Mouline is one of the estate’s iconic “La-La” wines, a tiny 1‑hectare, amphitheater-shaped vineyard on the Côte Blonde planted with very old Syrah and about 11% Viognier, some vines dating back to the 1890s. Co‑fermented and aged for around 40 months in 100% new oak, it is famed for its intensely aromatic, silky and “feminine” style, marrying red and black berry fruit, violets and spice with voluptuous texture and remarkable finesse that express this historic, sun‑trap terroir.
