Etna Rosso Calderara Sottana 2023 Vintage Overview

2023 OVERVIEW

Tenuta delle Terre Nere Etna Rosso Calderara Sottana 2023 shows a vividly perfumed nose of red cherry, blue-toned berries, flowers and gentle smokiness, all set against a pulsating undertone of volcanic stone. On the palate it’s tense and precise, with crisp acidity, pure red fruit and a distinctly tactile, mineral feel framed by firm, gritty tannins that clamp down on the long, resonant finish. A strikingly energetic and tightly wound vintage that promises impressive complexity with time in bottle.

About Etna Rosso Calderara Sottana

Tenuta delle Terre Nere’s Etna Rosso “Calderara Sottana” is a single‑contrada expression of 100% Nerello Mascalese from very old (roughly 50–100+ year‑old) vines on the north slopes of Mount Etna (about 600–700 m), planted in hard, stony volcanic soils of basalt, pumice and ash. It’s known for a vivid, floral‑spicy aromatics (rose, violet, Mediterranean herbs) threaded with ashen/mineral and saline notes, a silky “creamy” mouthfeel but firm, fine tannins and structure from time in French oak, making it both immediate and ageworthy.
