Etna Rosso Calderara Sottana 2022 Vintage Overview

2022 OVERVIEW

From the rocky slopes of Calderara Sottana, the 2022 Tenuta delle Terre Nere Etna Rosso shows lifted red berries, blood orange and wild herbs layered with gentle spice and a subtle touch of oak sweetness. The palate is vivid yet graceful, with crunchy raspberry and cassis, bright acidity and fine, silky tannins that carry a long, mineral-driven finish. This vintage stands out for its combination of ripeness and tension, giving both immediate charm and structure for aging.

About Etna Rosso Calderara Sottana

Tenuta delle Terre Nere’s Etna Rosso “Calderara Sottana” is a single‑contrada expression of 100% Nerello Mascalese from very old (roughly 50–100+ year‑old) vines on the north slopes of Mount Etna (about 600–700 m), planted in hard, stony volcanic soils of basalt, pumice and ash. It’s known for a vivid, floral‑spicy aromatics (rose, violet, Mediterranean herbs) threaded with ashen/mineral and saline notes, a silky “creamy” mouthfeel but firm, fine tannins and structure from time in French oak, making it both immediate and ageworthy.
