Vosne-Romanee Aux Malconsorts Premier Cru 2020 Vintage Overview

2020 OVERVIEW

Structure leads the way in Sylvain Cathiard’s 2020 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts: deep, dark red fruits and wild berries are packed into a broad, powerful frame, with threads of spice, anise and stony mineral drive giving it a stern, serious edge. The palate is full-bodied and muscular yet finely detailed, its firm tannins and youthful austerity clamping down on a core that feels layered and multidimensional, promising far more nuance with time. This is a formidable, slow-evolving Malconsorts that prioritizes intensity and pedigree over early charm.

About Vosne-Romanee Aux Malconsorts Premier Cru

Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts Premier Cru from Sylvain (now Sébastien) Cathiard is one of the domaine’s flagship wines, from a small 0.7–0.75 ha parcel of 1970s Pinot Noir vines on deep red clay, immediately adjacent to La Tâche. Typically powerful yet weightless, it marries dark cherry and berry fruit, floral and exotic spice notes, and a pronounced mineral-saline line with fine but serious tannic structure, giving a wine often described as grand cru in all but name and built for long aging.
