Brunello di Montalcino 2020 Vintage Overview

2020 OVERVIEW

Silky yet tightly coiled, Poggio di Sotto’s 2020 Brunello di Montalcino leans into purity and perfume: red berries and wild strawberry, rose petal, orange zest and savory herbs glide over a racy, saline, mineral spine. The palate is juicy and mouthwatering with firm, chalk-dusted tannins and a long, savory-spiced finish that shows more finesse than brute force, suggesting a beautifully elegant, long-lived vintage rather than a powerful one. This is already captivating but clearly geared for patience in the cellar.

About Brunello di Montalcino

Brunello di Montalcino from Poggio di Sotto is a benchmark, traditionally crafted 100% Sangiovese from old, biodiverse vineyards on poor clay-and-limestone soils in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, at 200–450 meters above sea level. Fermented with long macerations and aged well beyond DOCG requirements in large Slavonian oak casks, it yields a pale yet intensely perfumed, supremely elegant style of Brunello, with bright cherry fruit, floral and citrus nuances, and refined tannins built for long aging.
