Powerful yet controlled, the 2006 Penfolds Grange layers concentrated blackberry and dark plum fruit with coffee bean, cocoa, licorice and roasted nuts, all wrapped in tightly meshed, grainy tannins and bright acidity. Still youthful and coiled, it’s a commanding, long-finishing Grange that clearly ranks among the standout modern vintages and will reward those willing to wait.
