Messorio 2021 Vintage Overview

2021 OVERVIEW

In 2021, Messorio from Le Macchiole leans into sleek power and deep savor, wrapping concentrated plum and black cherry fruit in layers of cocoa, tobacco, warm spice and a subtle floral lift. The texture is almost glossy yet beautifully controlled, with very fine, mouthcoating tannins and a long, savory finish that speaks more of umami and finesse than sheer opulence. This is a highly accomplished, clearly top-tier Merlot that will reward patience in the cellar.

About Messorio

Messorio is Le Macchiole’s flagship, single-varietal Merlot from Bolgheri on the Tuscan coast, first produced in 1994 as an ambitious, “thoroughbred” alternative to soft, generic Merlot. Sourced from low-yielding vines on mineral-rich coastal soils, it’s typically a deeply colored, powerful yet refined wine, showing dark berry fruit, Mediterranean herbal and spice nuances, and velvety but structured tannins that reward extended cellaring.
