Elvio Cogno’s Pre-Phylloxera Barbera d’Alba is a rare, small-production Barbera made from ungrafted, century‑old vines in the Berri site near La Morra (about 0.25 ha at ~520 m), grown on sandy‑chalky soils that historically resisted phylloxera. It’s bright, deeply colored and aromatic—spicy at first with raspberry, cherry and violet notes—refined by about 12 months in large Slavonian oak to a fresh, well‑balanced palate of sour cherry, blackberry and prune with lively acidity and rounded tannins.
