Barolo Ginestra Casa Mate 2021 Vintage Overview

2021 OVERVIEW

From the warm, clay-rich Ginestra site, the 2021 Elio Grasso Barolo Ginestra Casa Mate bursts with dark cherry and black raspberry layered over liquorice, bay leaf, and wild herbs, then shifts into a cooler register of blood orange, spice and flowers. The palate is dense yet poised, with mouth-coating, finely sculpted tannins giving a firm frame to its sweet core of fruit and long, sapid finish. This is a powerful, deeply flavored Barolo that still feels incredibly precise and transparent in this outstanding vintage.

About Barolo Ginestra Casa Mate

Barolo Ginestra Casa Maté by Elio Grasso is a powerful yet finely etched single‑cru Barolo from the south‑facing Casa Maté parcel of Ginestra in Monforte d’Alba, planted to old Nebbiolo vines on limestone‑clay soils at 300–350 meters. Traditionally vinified and aged long in large Slavonian oak, it’s known for its combination of dark, ripe fruit, menthol and licorice tones, firm but polished tannins, and an ability to age into a deeply complex, truffle‑tinged wine that expresses the more sumptuous, muscular side of Monforte’s terroir.
