Chateau Ausone 2016 Vintage Overview

2016 OVERVIEW

A first taste of Chateau Ausone 2016 feels like stepping into a cool stone cellar filled with dark cherries, cassis and violets, then slowly reveals smoky, nutty depths and a fine graphite edge from its Cabernet Franc core. The palate is powerful yet weightless, layered with ripe black and red berries, a touch of tea and spice, and tannins so silky they seem to glide into an endlessly resonant finish. This is a brilliantly precise, long-lived Ausone that channels the limestone terroir into both clarity and grace.

About Chateau Ausone

Château Ausone is the tiny, limestone-driven grand vin of Saint-Émilion, grown on steep asteriated-limestone and clay-limestone terraces just outside the medieval village and long considered one of Bordeaux’s greatest terroirs. Dominated by old Cabernet Franc and Merlot vines, it yields very small quantities of intensely mineral, perfumed and long-lived wine that combine power, finesse, and remarkable freshness, overseen today by the Vauthier family.
