2006 Pro Rating
Dark, brooding fruit, autumn woods and rose petal drift through the 2006 Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Granbussia Riserva, a towering yet finely detailed wine whose iron backbone of tannin and acidity shapes flavors of cherry, licorice, tobacco, and spice into something both severe and hauntingly beautiful. The vintage’s power comes through in the grip and depth, but it’s tempered by an inner sweetness and lift that promise even more nuance with time in the cellar or a long decant.
Braised veal shank (ossobuco); Roast wild boar with polenta; Aged Parmigiano Reggiano
Barolo Granbussia Riserva is Aldo Conterno’s flagship Barolo, a rare cuvée drawn from the oldest vines in the Romirasco, Cicala and Colonnello parcels of the Bussia cru in Monforte d’Alba and produced only in top vintages. Long macerations, more than 30 months in large oak followed by extended bottle aging—around a decade in total—yield a deeply complex, powerful yet silken Nebbiolo that marries Bussia’s limy marl austerity with haunting notes of dried flowers, dark berries, tobacco, truffle and spice.
