Donna's Block Syrah 2020 Vintage Overview

2020 OVERVIEW

A vibrant, cool-climate Syrah that marries wild berry fruit with savory complexity—blackberry, elderberry and blue plum laced with iron, peppercorn, bay leaf and hints of violet and cured meat. Medium-bodied yet concentrated, it’s silkily framed by chalky, fine-grained tannins and brisk acidity, finishing long with lifted florals and a saline snap. Elegant, energetic, and wonderfully detailed.

About Donna's Block Syrah

Melville’s Donna’s Block Syrah is a cool‑climate, single‑block estate bottling from the sandy, wind‑swept northeastern section of their Sta. Rita Hills vineyard, named for matriarch Donna Melville. Rooted in beach‑like sand and shaped by Pacific fog and breezes, it typically shows a vibrant, savory profile—pepper, olive and florals over taut red‑black fruit—with finesse‑driven structure, often aided by significant whole‑cluster fermentation and a light oak touch that amplifies the site’s coastal energy.
