Insignia 2022 Vintage Overview

2022 OVERVIEW

In 2022, Joseph Phelps Insignia leans into generosity and polish, layering ripe red and black cherry fruit with notes of warm spice, cocoa and soft earth. The palate is plush and expansive yet surprisingly poised for such a warm vintage, with fine, powdery tannins and a long, savory-edged finish that makes the wine feel both luxurious and ready to approach relatively young. This is a hedonistic, forward Insignia that favors pleasure and texture over strict austerity, but still carries enough structure to age gracefully.

About Insignia

Insignia is Joseph Phelps Vineyards’ flagship, estate-grown Napa Valley Bordeaux-style red blend, first produced in 1974 and now considered a benchmark for Cabernet Sauvignon–based wines from California. Crafted each year from the best lots across Phelps’ premier vineyards (notably in Stags Leap District, Rutherford, Oak Knoll District, St. Helena and South Napa), it is typically dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc, aged about two years in 100% new French oak to yield a richly structured but polished win…
