Intensity and grace collide in the 2021 Gaja Sorì San Lorenzo, with vivid dark cherry and raspberry layered over pressed flowers, sweet spices, and smoky earth. The palate is compact yet lush, driven by deep fruit, graphite-like minerality and firm, finely woven tannins that promise a long, complex evolution. This is a powerful, tightly coiled Barbaresco that already fascinates but is clearly built for the cellar.
Braised veal shank (ossobuco); Pappardelle with wild boar ragù; Aged Parmigiano Reggiano
Sorì San Lorenzo is Gaja’s most powerful and austere single-vineyard Barbaresco, a south- to southwest-facing Nebbiolo cru just above the town of Barbaresco on limestone- and clay-rich soils overlooking the Tanaro River. First bottled as a single vineyard in 1967, it is known for its dense structure, dark fruit, mineral and spicy complexity, and outstanding longevity, typically needing many years in bottle to fully reveal its depth and refinement.
