Energy is the calling card of Fratelli Seghesio’s 2020 Barolo La Villa, with lifted red and black cherry fruit wrapped in accents of orange peel, baking spice, licorice and cool menthol. On the palate it feels both racy and complete, medium-bodied yet concentrated, with sweetly polished tannins and a long, sapid finish that brings in hints of dried herbs and earthy depth. A characterful, slightly wild Monforte Barolo that is already engaging but built to evolve in bottle.
