Le Petit Lion 2018 Vintage Overview

2018 OVERVIEW

Chateau Leoville Las Cases Le Petit Lion 2018 shows dark plum and cassis layered with cherry, gentle spice, and a subtle smoky, graphite edge. The palate is medium to full-bodied, tightly framed by grainy yet refined tannins, with lively freshness that keeps the concentrated fruit precise and leads to a long, savory finish. Structured but not austere, it’s a serious second wine with earlier approachability than the grand vin in this vintage.

About Le Petit Lion

Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases is the true second wine of Château Léoville Las Cases in Saint-Julien, crafted mainly from younger Cabernet Sauvignon and old-vine Merlot grown within the estate’s grand walled “Enclos.” Blended typically from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a touch of Cabernet Franc and aged in around 30% new French oak, it offers a more approachable, supple and Merlot‑plump expression of Las Cases’ dark-fruited, graphite‑mineral style while still retaining notable structure and aging potential.
