Dark, vivid fruit pours from Castello di Monsanto Il Poggio Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2016: sweet-sour cherries, wild berries and a touch of earth, wrapped in firm yet velvety tannins and lifted by herbal, tea-like nuances. The finish feels long, energetic and slightly savoury, giving this highly praised vintage both hedonistic richness and classic Tuscan grip.

Il Poggio Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is Castello di Monsanto’s iconic single-vineyard Sangiovese-based wine from the amphitheater-like Il Poggio cru in Barberino Tavarnelle, celebrated as one of the first named-vineyard Chianti Classicos. Rooted in galestro and pietraforte soils at around 280–320 meters, it combines vibrant acidity, fine yet powerful tannins and notable mineral depth with aromas that typically span red and black cherries, floral notes and earth, giving it an extraordinary capacity to age for decades.
