Dark cherry and plum layered with violet, orange peel, coffee and warm spice give Castello Banfi Poggio all'Oro Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2016 a deep, brooding charm. The palate is full and concentrated yet impeccably poised, with ripe, muscular tannins and vivid acidity driving a long, savory finish of earth, cocoa and herbs. Powerful now but clearly built to gain even more nuance with time in the cellar.
Bistecca alla fiorentina; Braised lamb shank with rosemary; Aged pecorino Toscano
Poggio all’Oro Brunello di Montalcino Riserva from Castello Banfi is a single‑vineyard Sangiovese vinified only in top vintages from a sunny, calcareous knoll on Montalcino’s southern slopes; it’s aged extensively in large French oak casks (with a portion in barriques) to produce a powerful yet refined Riserva showing black‑fruit, plum, tobacco, violet and spice notes, firm structured tannins and long persistence.
