Seleccion Especial 2020 Vintage Overview

2020 OVERVIEW

Ripe dark berries, cassis and black plum roll into layers of cocoa, gentle smoke and sweet spice in the 2020 Bodegas Muga Selección Especial, framed by violet and dried herb complexity from its warm, concentrated vintage. The palate is medium to full-bodied and polished yet structured, with a supple core of fruit, firm but fine tannins and a long, savory finish that promises more nuance with a few years in bottle.

About Seleccion Especial

Muga’s Selección Especial is a modern yet classically structured Rioja Reserva, drawn from old, low‑yielding vineyards on poor calcareous clay terraces in Rioja Alta at the foot of the Montes Obarenes and Sierra Cantabria. Based on Tempranillo with Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo, it’s fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged around 26 months in fine French oak crafted in Muga’s own cooperage, giving a powerful but polished wine that marries ripe dark fruit and spice with freshness, firm tannins and serious ageing potential.
