Cuvee Renaissance Cornas 2018 Vintage Overview

2018 OVERVIEW

Auguste Clape’s 2018 Cornas Cuvée Renaissance shows vibrant blackcurrant and blackberry fruit edged by cool herbal tones, licorice and a faint smokiness. Medium to full in body yet brisk and focused, it layers juicy dark berries over round but firm tannins, finishing long, precise and savory, with an appealing sense of lift for such a sun-kissed year.

About Cuvee Renaissance Cornas

Auguste Clape’s Cuvée Renaissance is a Cornas bottling of 100% Syrah drawn from younger but well-sited parcels on the granite, sandy/pebbly slopes of the appellation; it’s vinified traditionally with whole-berry picking and indigenous yeasts and aged in large foudres, producing a powerful yet refined expression of Cornas—dark berry and olive notes with peppery, smoky, mineral edges and firm tannins that reward some bottle age.
