G.D. Vajra is one of Barolo’s leading family estates, rooted in the village of Vergne, the highest point in the Barolo commune. Though the Vajra family had long farmed vineyards such as the prized Bricco delle Viole cru, the modern estate was effectively founded in the late 1960s and early 1970s, when a young Aldo Vajra chose farming over city life and formally registered the winery under his father’s name, Giuseppe Domenico (hence “G.D.”).
