Founded in 1964 in the northern Abruzzo town of Torano Nuovo, Emidio Pepe is one of Italy’s benchmark producers for ageworthy Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo. The Pepe family had been growing vines since the late 19th century, but it was Emidio who became a pioneer, insisting that these local grapes could rival the world’s great wines if farmed carefully and given time to mature.
