Cockburn’s is one of the great names of the Douro, founded in 1815 by Scottish soldier Robert Cockburn after his return to Portugal from the Napoleonic Wars. Over the 19th and 20th centuries it grew into a benchmark Port house, particularly in the British market. After several decades of corporate ownership, the brand entered a new phase in 2010 when it was brought back under family control by Symington Family Estates, a leading Douro dynasty with deep roots in Port production.
