Château Haut-Bages Libéral is a Fifth Growth estate in Pauillac, classified in 1855 and long associated with the Libéral family, who gave the property its name along with the Bages plateau on which much of the vineyard sits. The modern chapter began when the Lurton family acquired the château in 1982; since the early 1990s it has been driven by Claire Villars‑Lurton, who has also become a prominent voice for more environmentally sensitive viticulture in the Médoc.
