Château Beychevelle is a historic Bordeaux estate in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle, whose origins date back to 1565 when the first château was built by François de Foix-Candale, Bishop of Bordeaux. Its name and emblem—the galley with lowered sails—come from the late 16th century, when the powerful Duke of Épernon, Grand Admiral of France, owned the property and passing ships reputedly “lowered their sails” in homage.
