Bodegas El Nido is a small, high-profile estate in Jumilla, Murcia, created in 2001 as a joint venture between Gil Family Estates (of Bodegas Juan Gil) and renowned Australian winemaker Chris Ringland. Conceived as a tribute to the region’s oldest Monastrell vines—some approaching a century in age—the project quickly gained international attention, with its debut wines El Nido and Clío released in 2002 and rapidly elevated into the top tier of Spanish reds.
